Modular Wastewater Treatment Plant Automation Design

Proteus Waters is seeking a comprehensive design for the automation and controls of a modular wastewater treatment plant tailored for trucked liquid waste (sewage truck haulers). The location will be Abbotsford BC and must align with provincial and federal regulations. The project aims to address the growing need for a packaged, turn-key MBR wastewater management system that is able to treat wastewater to standards that the effluent can be reused for Agriculture or business. Learners will apply their knowledge of mechanical design, automation systems, control engineering, operational efficiency and environmental technology to create a design that can stand-alone in a farmers field (decentralized systems). The project will focus on developing a plan that ensures optimal automated monitoring and performance, energy efficiency, operational & maintenance simplicity and compliance with environmental regulations. By working on this project, learners will gain hands-on experience in designing packaged mechanical MBR systems that are automated for real-world applications, enhancing their understanding of both sustainable circular economy models and practical implementation. A strong project management approach will be followed to ensure strong, high quality communications, collaboration and performance can be delivered. Key Deliverables include: Analyzing the current wastewater treatment requirements, Block Layout and P&ID of an existing project that is currently being executed (to be operational by May, 2025) Designing optimizations into the detailed design of the integrated modules within the complete system Designing an automation and control system tailored to a modular plant setup Ensuring the design is cost-effective and meets environmental and regulatory standards. Creating a detailed implementation plan for the proposed system.
